I started my training in 2003 at Body Wisdom Massage Therapy School. There I completed 1200 hours of training in Therapeutic Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Rebalancing and Pulsing, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Hydrotherapy, Aromatherapy, and Jin Shin Do Acupressure.

After graduating I spent time creating my own unique style of massage that incorporates all of the different modalities that I learned while I was there. Throughout the last 10 years of practice I have also learned Prenatal/Postnatal and Infant Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Warm Bamboo Massage, and many more styles that have helped me continue to develop my style. Then in 2011 I received Reiki II training from Sandi Smith of LionHeart Wellness / Center for Self-Care Education.

Through all of the training that I have received, my greatest teachers have been my clients. Each person is unique and has a unique body, so my massage technique is created specifically for each of my clients. I believe that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself, whether through muscle manipulation, or through emotional release. People have many different reasons that bring them in for massage; Injury, Stress Management, Pregnancy, Postnatal, Energetic Balancing, or simply for a chance to breathe.

I am also a mother, a friend, an artist, and an environmentalist. I believe we all have a purpose in life, and I believe my purpose is to connect with people through many different ways. I enjoy being out in nature with my family and our two dogs. We enjoy music and art together, and most of all, laughter. I enjoy my life, and everyone and everything that I come into contact with.

Here are some further descriptions on some of the modalities I practice, any of which can be incorporated into a session:

Acupressure is often called Acupuncture without the needles. Instead of using needles the practitioner uses manual pressure with the fingertips to specific points in the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body has vital energy called “chi” or “qi” that flows along invisible lines of energy flow called meridians. There are acupressure points along those meridians, and if the flow of qi is blocked at any point in the meridian, it’s thought to be the cause of ailments and lead to disease anywhere along the meridian. Acupressure can help with many ailments, such as: Nausea, Motion Sickness, Cancer-Related Fatigue, Headaches, Menstrual Cramps, Muscle Tensions, Insomnia, Balancing Energy, Pain Control, Increased Circulation, Improved Immune System, Gynecological Disorders, PMS/Hormonal Problems, and many other ailments.

Holistic Rebalancing and Pulsing:

This is a massage that focuses on the self-realization and the link between physical and emotional tension. The body receives a continuing rhythmic and rocking movement, sometimes small and subtle and sometimes larger and more testing. You will experience where energy flows and where it feels blocked. You are invited to “release” by using conscious breathing.

Hot Stones or Warm Bamboo Massage:

Hot stones are placed on the body to promote deep relaxation of the mind and body. I will use the hot stones or warm bamboo as part of a therapeutic massage in order to create a deep release without having to do a deep tissue massage. This is an excellent way to unwind on a cold day!

“We are all shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

“Just as you have energy centers in your body called Chakras, so too does Mother Earth.” – DailyOM

“Melodie made my pregnancy a little easier with her massage technique. I always came out of the massage feeling relaxed, refreshed and would highly recommend her to anyone.” – Lindi Nelson

“I have gone to a lot of massage therapists over the years. My back and neck have always been problem areas for me. Melodie has a voice that is very calming and her technique is wonderful. She really listens to what I need and will focus on those areas as much as I need. She is very knowledgeable about the entire body's muscular system and pressure points. She intuitively knows where I am all knotted up and makes me feel 100% better. I recommend Melodie highly to everyone I know. She is that good! I want to thank her for making me feel like I am not only a client but also a friend!” –Roxy Gullard

“Melodie was a saving grace during the later stages of my pregnancy and postpartum. Not only is she a very talented masseuse, she is incredibly warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. Dealing with the joys of pregnancy was made easier by my visits to The Family Tree. It's the best thing I've done for myself through pregnancy and motherhood.

I have many other spa experiences and I have never felt as though my consultant truly cared about my physical and mental well-being. Melodie takes the whole person under her care and I won't go anywhere else!” – Elizabeth Sheridan

"I had a massage last week with Melodie and I wanted to let you know that I was super impressed! I really enjoy massages and would estimate that I have had over 400 in my lifetime. Many of them have come in some of the nicest hotels and spas in the country in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, etc. With that said, the massage I had with Melodie was the absolute best I can remember! Please let her know that I will be back!"
